Building the house of our dreams
with consideration for the environment
On a budget!
I grew up in Tacoma Washington and moved to Kansas City, Missouri where I met my husband.
My husband always had a dream of building a log home. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I was all for the beauty of a log home, but the thought of cutting down trees to do this bothered me. I am what my husband calls a “tree hugger,” a title that I am very proud of!
I realized if we both wanted to accomplish our goal, we had to come to a compromise. So, the tree hugger and the farmer made a deal. I would help him realize his dream on the condition that we would build our house as green as was financially possible.
I assumed that finding information on building green would be easy with all the resources on the Internet, but I haven’t found that to be the case at all. The research still continues through our third year of planning and information is spread out everywhere! I have consolidated a great deal of it here. (For those of you wanting to build a different type of house, don’t worry, the logs are only one of many items in the building of a green house.)
Please ride along with me and I will share with you all that I have gathered from the hundreds of websites I’ve researched. I am also a penny-pincher and like to find good deals whenever I can. Therefore, I will be sharing some money-saving ideas with you, as well.
Hopefully I will be able to shorten the search for you, and give you some good tips along the way!
