Floor Plans

At some point they may all start to look similar

but there may be that one out there that fits you just right

Start looking at websites for ideas of floor plans.

  • You can narrow down the search for the floor plan you want by putting in keywords in the search
    1. Example –  3 bedroom, 3 bath, traditional, one story, ranch
    2. Stick with the sites the give you options to narrow down your search with drop down boxes.  A good site is eplan.com

Don’t find exactly what you want

  • Buy software and create your own
    1. I used Punch! Super home suite  www.punchsoftware.com
    2. It not only provides you with predefined floor plans, you can also print templates.
    3. I used the templates to build a model of the house I designed. It helped me make changes to my design seeing it in model form.

Remember - The more basic the plan the least expensive

    1. If you have several levels within the stories of your design this will cause more expense
    2. Try to find floor plans where the Kitchen and bathrooms are in the same area, even between floors.  Hot and cold water take copper piping, and we know that home building supplies are going up in price
    3. Several roof lines also will add to the price of your new home.
    4. The least expensive way to add square footage is with a basement
  •  I used Microsoft Excel to do the initial layout. See the electrical page
